Being His Presence in Every Place

What if the places you go tomorrow are not interruptions to your spiritual life, but actually part of your calling?

Your workplace. The school gate. The building site. The university campus. The café. The sporting club. Your street. The people around your dinner table.

We can easily imagine that the important spiritual things happen when the church gathers on Sunday. But the New Testament gives us a much bigger vision.

We gather as the church so that we can be scattered as the church.

Step Out is the missional movement of our discipleship journey. It asks a wonderfully simple question:

Where is Jesus sending me to carry His presence?

But we need to understand something important before we start.

Jesus does not say, “Go and produce fruit.”

He says:

“Remain in me, as I also remain in you… If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit.”
— John 15:4–5

That distinction matters.

God has acted decisively through Jesus to begin putting His world right, and those who belong to Jesus become signs and agents of that coming Kingdom.

So mission isn't primarily about adding more Christian activities to an already overcrowded life. It is learning to recognise what God is already doing — and joining Him there.

That means the work already in your hands can matter to God. Genesis 1:26–28 reminds us that meaningful work belongs to God's good creation, while Colossians 3:17 calls us to do whatever we do in Jesus' name. Your vocation can become part of God's loving care for His world.

It also changes how we see our community.

Jesus sends His disciples into towns and homes in Luke 10 not merely as people carrying religious programs, but as people carrying His presence. We don't simply ask, “How can we get people to church?” We begin asking, “How can we be the presence of Jesus where God has already placed us?”

Paul gives us an extraordinary picture of the church in Ephesians 1:22–23: we are Christ's body, “the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.”

Think about the implication: Jesus intends to fill ordinary places through ordinary disciples.

Over the next four weeks, we’ll explore what it looks like to live out our faith in everyday life.

We’ll begin with Monday Matters — discovering calling in our everyday life.

Then, in Join the Party, we’ll learn to see our communities not as projects to be completed, but as places God already loves and is at work in.

In Light in the Dark, we’ll explore what it means to faithfully represent Jesus in our culture — neither retreating from it nor simply conforming to it.

And finally, in Tell Me More, we’ll discover how ordinary conversations can become Spirit-led opportunities for people to encounter Christ.

And underneath it all is one simple movement:

Remain in Christ.
Embody His presence.
Bear His fruit.

STEP IN → STEP UP → STEP OUT.

Because perhaps the mission field isn't somewhere you need to go.

Perhaps Jesus has already sent you there.

“As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” — John 20:21

So here's the question we'll be carrying together:

Where has Jesus sent me — and who am I helping move toward Him?
