The need for dependable role models in our society is greater than ever

Apr 21, 2021

This coming Sunday we will bring in remembrance those who sacrificed for our country and its liberties as they served in the ANZAC. They served with their time, talents and even sacrificed their “life” in order to give us something to build upon. The characteristics of self-sacrifice, courage, mateship and endurance are such a good reflection of what makes our country great! These characteristics surely is something to build upon.

The need for dependable role models in our society is greater than ever. I need role models, you need role models, every single individual has the need to identify someone who’s character shines like a beacon of hope in this world so marred by sin, pain and brokenness. You can imagine the shock in the disciples’ faces when their role model – Jesus – told them he is going to leave them…and replace himself with a better option:
'But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: about sin, because people do not believe in me; about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned. '
John 16:7-11 NIV

Jesus introduces an astute representative of heaven that will not be an objective role model, but an indwelling advocate that will bring subjective proof regarding sin, righteousness and judgement. The external role model is now sending internal empowerment to every believer! What a wonderful reality: We have a compass (the life of Jesus) and a power generating dynamo (the Holy Spirit) that will direct our lives in the right direction.  With these two aspects you are so well positioned to Be His Presence In Every Place!

Mother’s Day

When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness. (Proverbs 31:26)

What is your best memory of mum? Was it when you grazed your knee and she put band aid on it? Was it when you felt sore and she miraculously kissed the pain away? Was it when you were down and her encouragement spurred you on? Was it when you were being silly and a firm word of discipline set you on the right path? Was it when you were sick and she stayed by your bedside and prayed until you got better?
Motherhood does not come with a detailed instruction manual and yet mums are able to do such an amazing job. They have so much wisdom and kindness to give. Join us on 9th May as we celebrate Mother’s Day and honour mums for the incredible person they are and the wonderful job they do. And if you haven’t bought mum a present or booked that lunch yet, then now is a good time to do it! Book here.
